Dev becomes good friends with his co-worker Curran (Timm Sharp), who moves in with Dev, when his girlfriend Sheila (Layna Fisher) kicks him out. Dev and Curran light up the small town, getting drunk, smoking weed, tooting coke, going to strip bars, getting in fights, and just hanging out playing guitar on the front porch of their dumpy house. It gets to be a little bit too much for some of Dev's more serious friends, like Stacey (Juliette Morgan), who threatens Dev with an intervention. Dev gets in trouble with Vic (Matt Skollar), his best friend from Amherst College, after sleeping with Vic's girlfriend Claire (Amy Acker), who Dev has been flirting with all along. One year after college, pretty much nobody wants to have much to do with Dev, including the bartenders. It's Curran's mother (Elizabeth Ann Townsend), who inspires Dev to interview at People Magazine in NY, which he does. And to Dev's surprise he gets an entry level position as a fact checker. Dev leaves his college town behind and moves to New York to start his new life, leaving Curran on the front porch.

However, when she arrives in Essex, Rosalie is mistaken for Madame Murat Bey, a distant relative of wealthy wounded war hero Robert "Bob" Stratton and the co-heir of his estate. Accepting the situation, Rosalie discovers that Dr. Thomas Fitch, Bob's family physician, is conspiring with his sister, Grace Fitch, to poison the patient before he discovers Fitch has embezzled funds belonging to the estate. When the Fitches realize Rosalie has uncovered their perfidy, they throw her into a well. Then Grace, disguising herself as the "real" Madame Bey, arrives to announce that Rosalie was an imposter. Rosalie escapes in time to prevent Bob from eating poisoned food, Dr. Fitch is killed by toxic fumes in his laboratory, and Grace is arrested. Rosalie gives up her newspaper job to live with Bob.

In presenting this letter she meets with bitter disappointment and is rudely ordered out of his house. Returning to her friend (Harry Furniss), she describes her ill-treatment at the hands of Sir Dauber, whereupon the former vows vengeance. Disguising himself as Professor Cyclops, the great American brain specialist, he presents himself at Sir Dauber's studio, having arranged by 'phone to pose for his portrait. Sir Dauber, highly flattered with an order from such a celebrity, begins work at once. A lady having a previous sitting returns for her umbrella. The moment Sir Dauber's back is turned Cyclops changes the handsome; lady's portrait to a most laughable caricature, quickly returning to his seat, assuming a most unconcerned attitude. When the lady makes the horrible discovery of her distorted portrait, she flies into a violent rage, destroys the portrait and departs in a huff. Sir Dauber unable to account for the transformed portrait imagines he is going insane. Recovering himself he begins to outline the portrait of Professor Cyclops; at an opportune moment Cyclops again tampers with the canvas on the easel, which adds new horror to Sir Dauber's perturbed mind and he implores the brain specialist to diagnose his case. Cyclops pronounces him insane and orders immediate rest in a sanatorium. He conveys him to the attic of the poor artist and there he, Cyclops, reveals his true identity. Sir Dauber discovers he is the victim of a practical joke brought about by his uncharitable attitude and promises to be more benevolent in the future, and proves his assertion by immediately contributing to the support of the distressed family, bringing about a happy conclusion.
